The last few days have been so hot, me and horses not yet used to it! It has been so nice to be able to turn out with no rugs, so good for the horses general well being.
I had an exciting day, in more ways than one, taking Frodo to his first proper show. We took Cedric and Frodo to do a young horse qualifier at Solihull on Thursday, it was going to be interesting as they hadn’t been on the lorry before. Frodo spent the evening before practising coming out of the lorry as he seemed to struggle with walking down a ramp and, instead, trying to jump from the top. He soon realised he was being stupid and came out sensibly at the show! He was a total star to ride and won his class easily with 8.3! Cedric was up next and he can be so spooky so I wasn’t expecting much, only to try and get him around the arena! He was good in trot and walk but the canter got a bit crazy. He ended up 3rd and qualified for championships at Hartpury!
We rushed home to drive down to Windsor to watch the Grand Prix, it was a great evening and a lovely show in the warm weather.
Next up is Somerford Premier League with 3 horses. Dino and Cedric have never been to such a big show, so may be a little too exciting. I have a feeling I will be up at 6 am to ride!
I have had a busy few weeks with the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships and various small shows going on. I took Baggy to do the Medium Open Championships at Hartpury and he was very excited to be out at a big show!
The last couple of weeks have been very busy with shows and training. I took Saffy out for another competition at medium which she won with 69%. The weather was dreadful and a don’t think I’ve ever been so wet, so i was pleased how she coped in not ideal conditions! She has to go out and get a couple more points for her regional qualification and then she can continue learning her flying changes for the 6 yr old classes later in the year.
After a shaky wet weather related start the 2014 season has started with a bang and so far so good!
We have had great runs at Oasby & Lincoln with the “big 4” also known as Arctic Soul (Spike), Chico Bella (Bella), Dinky Inky (Inky) and Quicklook (Pebbles) all performing almost perfectly with good dressage, double clears and some prizes. The gold star at the moment goes to Spike who won the OI at Lincoln on his dressage score of 24 topping off a good weekend to make a hatrick of wins! Continue reading
What lovely weather we have been having! It makes working with horses so much easier for us and so nice for the horses to be able to go out with no rugs and enjoy the sunshine on their backs. Lets hope it last for a bit longer!
I have been to a few shows in the last couple of weeks to get some qualifications for the summer regionals. I have been stepping up a level with some of the horses so have needed to allow them some time to gain confidence performing the harder movements in a test situation. I took Saffy (Satin Rouge) to kings equestrian to do her first medium and she exceeded my expectations by winning with over 74%! I’m so pleased with her attitude and look forward to taking her out to some more shows soon.
I used to write for the Redpin titles about 8 years ago and so it’s good to again be able to share my thoughts and experiences on the Equestrian World with everyone!
Some of the longer term readers may remember my previous articles and a huge amount has happened since then… from Nations Cup victories to international Grand Prix wins, travel and mishaps along the way. It’s what makes this sport of ours so addictive and often becomes a lifestyle more than simply a hobby.
Hello everyone and welcome to my new blog!
This month has seen the start of this seasons big competitions, Baggy (Beguia) had the regionals at Addington. He was a good boy and did a nice test with only a few little mistakes to take 2nd place and a qualification for the NAF Winter Dressage Championships at Hartpury in April. He can now train on for his PSG debut in a couple of months. I have been trying to get a couple of young horses out to their first few shows, this has come with varying success! Cedric won his first prelim with 78% to only go to his second show and make a total drama out of the terrifying judges car!
Never mind, he will have to learn that cars don’t kill him for next time!
